Elizabeth and Archie Findlay have for many years welcomed guests from all over the world to stay for bed and breakfast, and Kirklands is ideal as a stop-over if you are travelling to Scotland or back, or as a base if you would like to tour this beautiful and unspoilt area.
This is an exceptionally welcoming and comfortable house (dating from circa 1780), set in gardens and lawns with an open aspect over pastures to Canonbie church for which it was formerly the Manse.
The house is just a few yards from the River Esk. In the morning after a good breakfast you might like to take a walk past the church, along its banks... as Izaak Walton (in The Compleat Angler) said: "Rivers and the Inhabitants of the wat'ry Element were made for wise men to contemplate..."
Archie has a wide and detailed knowledge of countryside matters, from fishing and wildlife to land management, and both he and Liz are happy to help with advice on what to do in this area.

Breakfast is served at a table in front of a window which overlooks the garden and fields (right). Liz cooks a full Scottish cooked breakfast (bacon, sausage, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc) or, if you prefer, a lighter continental-style breakfast. |
