About 3 miles west of Blairgowrie and 16 miles north of Perth, Essendy House is secluded in a lovely established garden of lawns, mature trees and shrubs and set amidst hills and farmland in beautiful Perthshire.
The house which dates from 1715, is the family home of Tess and John Monteith who warmly welcome guests for bed and breakfast.

The bedrooms are wonderfully comfortable and the guest drawing room sumptuous with a log fire, television and books and brochures about Perthshire and Scotland.
You can sit in the conservatory under the grape vines and breakfast is served in the dining room which has fine rococo wall paintings by Tess. Or on warm sunny mornings the breakfast table can be set up on the stone flagged terrace (right).
Essendy House is a great place to stay for a few days. It's amazingly central for visiting Dunkeld, the Hermitage, Pitlochry (theatre, whisky distillery, shopping) Glamis, Scone Palace and Blair Atholl Castle, all of which are an easy day's outing. It's also only 7 miles from the Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve where you can see magnificent ospreys (...rarer than golden eagles). And if you're travelling the length and breadth of Scotland and want to stay for just one restful night, this is the place!

Looking south from Essendy House and easily visible are the Sidlaw Hills, the site of Macbeth's castle – Dunsinaine (now Dunsinnan). This is believed to be the site of a battle where Malcolm Canmore defeated Macbeth in 1054. In reality this was only a limited defeat for Macbeth, who was not fully defeated and was only killed by Malcolm Canmore in 1057, at Lumphannan near Aberdeen.
