Broughton Place was built to the design of Hugh Cairncross (who had been an assistant to Robert Adam) in 1807, and Eric Robinson's apartment at Number 16 is on the 2nd floor (access by stairs), on the upper floor of the pedimented centrepiece you can see in the photograph. This is a relaxed, easy going residential neighbourhood with plenty of cafés, bars and small shops and is less than 10 minutes walk from Princes Street. Eric welcomes guests to stay for bed and breakfast; two bedrooms are available, both quiet and overlooking rear gardens. The walls are covered with prints, drawings and paintings collected over the years, and there is an atmosphere of calm civilisation. Eric is happy to give advice about what to see and do in Edinburgh, particularly theatre, galleries, museums and interesting walks and itineraries. |
