Old Kilmun House
Kilmun,
Argyllshire,
Scotland
Historic Grade "A" Scottish country house self catering rental for up to 18, set in gardens above the north shore of Holy Loch, 1 1/2 hours from Glasgow in the Argyll Forest Park. Weekly rentals and short breaks.

In the middle of the two photographs on the right you can see Old Kilmun House, set in gardens on the edge of the magnificent Kilmun Aboretum Forest Garden (162 tree species) which covers the hillside above. This lovely old house dating from 1693 was built by the Dukes of Argyll adjacent to their family (Campbell) mausoleum and an ancient church dedicated to the 5th century Irish monk Saint Munn.
Old Kilmun House is the much-loved family holiday home of John and Jan Davies, and with 8 bedrooms is available for self-catering rental for families and friends in parties of up to 14 adults plus children, 18 in total. Children will love the media/entertainment and games rooms in the basement, and adults will love the peace and quiet above. For the ultimate in relaxation, the Davies's can even arrange an outside caterer to provide for you.
The drive sweeps up through the garden from the minor road along the shore of the loch below. On the west gable-end is a separate Victorian wing, privately owned by a single person who shares the access drive. Old stone steps and ballustrades lead up to front door with carved pediment above. The house was surely built for the view, and ordered rows of 12 pane sash-windows look over the 2.5 acre garden to the loch and hills beyond.
There are endless excursions for adults and children: sailing, fishing, walking, cycling, exploring the Arboretum behind the house, the surrounding Argyll Forest Park (and world famous Benmore Botanic Garden, 2 miles away), Puck's Glen and Inveraray Castle.
At Old Kilmun House: 6 fishing rods, 8 bicycles (and helmets), and 4 golf club bags, croquet set, midge machine, cricket set, football, large goal net, soft tennis and badminton, 13" trampoline, billiard/snooker room, TV/DVD surround sound, darts, table football and board games.
